Duties No prior experience required! Training provided.* Biology Peer Tutors provide individual and small group tutoring services to all current Inver Hills students. Tutors help students understand their assignments, explain key concepts of course materials, offer feedback and encouragement, and share appropriate resources. Tutors are also responsible for maintaining a clean and welcoming environment in the Center, greeting students, visiting classrooms, as well as helping the Director and College Lab Assistants with other projects related to marketing, data management, and ongoing Center development. Tutors are expected to participate in ongoing training sessions to develop their skills as a tutor. Good candidates will possess the following qualities: • Desire to help others learn • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality • Strong active listening skills • Desire to work with a diverse population of learners • Responsible, dependable, honest, and mature.
Qualifications Minimum Required Qualifications for Employment: • High academic achievement in subject area(s), including preferably completion of BIOL 1154 (Biology: From Cell to Organism) or above with an “A” • Understanding of basic math rules and concepts, including fractions, decimals, and whole number operations • Two strong recommendations from current or previous instructors Students who have completed BIOL 2201 (A&P I) and/or BIOL 2205 (Microbiology) are also strongly encouraged to apply! Preferred Qualifications • 3.5 Grade Point Average • Coursework in Biology • Eligible for Federal Work Study* • Previous tutoring experience * Please note: To be eligible for Work Study, which is preferred but not required for this position, a student must: 1. Have received a Financial Aid Award Letter 2. Be registered for a minimum of 6 credits 3. Meet the position GPA requirements Questions?
