Duties Student Support & Mentoring • Provide 1:1 or small-group mentoring to TRIO students, including regular check-ins for new participants as part of TRIO’s structured First Year Experience (FYE) model. • Support students in learning time management, study strategies, technology navigation, and how to use college resources effectively. • Help students build self-confidence, agency, and a sense of belonging at IHCC. • Maintain consistent communication with students and staff using Teams, Starfish, Outlook, and approved TRIO communication channels. Academic Support • Assist with TRIO study groups, academic workshops, and developmental/gateway course support (especially writing and math). • Reinforce skills students learn in tutoring and help identify when early intervention or advisor involvement is needed. • Help students prepare for tools like ACCUPLACER retesting when relevant. Program Engagement & Community Building • Actively facilitate TRIO events, workshops, orientation activities, and cultural or community-building programming. • Encourage student participation in campus activities, services, and leadership opportunities. • Assist with student panel presentations for new TRIO participants. Outreach & Early Intervention • Communicate with prospective and current TRIO students about program expectations, deadlines, events, and opportunities. • Track student concerns and escalate issues to TRIO advisors as appropriate. • Support monitoring through early alert reports, faculty updates, and attendance/engagement tracking. Program Support & Innovation • Help design, research, and implement new ideas to strengthen TRIO student engagement. • Assist with administrative tasks, resource organization, and maintaining a welcoming environment in the TRIO office. • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required • Current Inver Hills student enrolled in 6 or more credits per semester. • Active participant in TRIO SSS or aligned with program goals. • 2.5 minimum cumulative GPA and a minimum completion rate of 75%. • Eligible for Federal Work Study during semesters of employment. • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. • Respect for confidentiality and ability to maintain professional boundaries. • Comfortable working with diverse populations and presenting to small groups. • Self-motivated and able to work with limited supervision. Preferred • Experience as a TRIO student (UB, SSS, ETS, or similar). • Strengths in writing, math, technology, or academic support roles. • Prior mentoring, tutoring, or leadership experience.
Work Schedule 8 am-4:30 but based around student's availability and TRIO office staffing needs.
