Duties 1. Patrol college buildings and grounds to deter unlawful or other inappropriate activity by making rounds in accordance with prescribed policies and procedures. Monitor, investigate and/or report unusual suspicious conditions or incidents. Provide campus safety escorts to and from buildings/locations to ensure safe passage. Priority: A Discretion: B Percent of Time: 40 2. Regulate movement in and out of assigned buildings and grounds to ensure admittance of only authorized people by checking for identification, recording and verifying information as directed. Monitor campus alarm system and surveillance system as needed/required. Secure doors, windows, and/or gates in campus buildings and grounds. Observe and report unsafe conditions and/or occurrences. Priority: A Discretion: B Percent of Time: 20 3. Respond to campus emergencies in order to protect persons and property by going to the appropriate location; assessing the situation; following prescribed instructions; request additional assistance from local law enforcement when needed. Assist victims of injuries and/or crimes. Priority: A Discretion: B Percent of Time: 15 4. Provide information to the public, students, staff, and faculty on applicable rules and regulations, office and facility locations, general crime prevention techniques and available programs, and related issues. Maintain knowledge of administrative rules, regulations, and procedures governing security for college buildings and grounds to follow. Maintain campus building knowledge in case of emergency, know where to direct people during weather emergencies or responding to other emergency situations. Priority: A Discretion: B Percent of Time: 15 5. Prepare crime and incident reports daily. Provide prevention related education and inspections. Complete daily field activity reports. Take custody of found, lost, or abandoned property. Serve as a witness for sworn law enforcement officers after observing suspected criminal activity. Perform other duties as assigned to assist with Facilities & Operations projects, events, and activities. Priority: A Discretion: B Percent of Time: 10 RELATIONSHIPS: This position has frequent contact with college staff, faculty, visitors, and the public. It is essential that the incumbent possesses effective human relationship skills, tact, discretion, and personal integrity. Professional relationships must be maintained at all times during frequent personal contact. This person is expected to conduct themselves in a professional, cordial, and customer service-based manner at all times. All communications and interactions must be conducted with courtesy and respect. PROBLEM SOLVING: This person will be working by themselves a majority of the time and will often be expected to resolve problems. This person is also expected to have the ability to analyze, correct or request assistance when responding to security related situations.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Computer skills sufficient to use general office application/productivity software (e.g. email, word processing, spreadsheets, scheduling, etc.) The ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions in English as well as communicate verbally in person, by telephone, by radio, and in writing. Knowledge of administrative rules, regulations and procedures governing security for college buildings and grounds sufficient to follow, enforce, and explain them. Must possess a valid Minnesota Drivers License in order to drive state vehicles. Ability to exercise good judgement. Physical Requirements The incumbent in this position must be able to perform in a work environment which may include the following factors: Frequent: standing, walking, sitting, stooping, and kneeling. In addition, the incumbent must be able to perform work in an environment which may include; exposure to weather, extreme heat extreme cold, noise, and humid/wet conditions. Job may require walking or standing to a significant degree both inside and outdoors while patrolling campus buildings and grounds.
Work Schedule To be determined based on student availability. Normal work hours occurring Monday through Friday during the day and evening.
